Privacy policy

PintRunner is an Android app made by SausageLabs in the UK ("we", "us"). This page explains what information the app collects, why, and what you can do about it. We are the controller of your personal information under UK data protection law.
What we collect
Your account
- Your username and email address.
- If you sign up with email, a password. We store it in scrambled (hashed) form and can't read it.
- If you sign in with Google, the email address and name Google shares with us.
- An optional profile photo. We resize it and store it with our image storage provider.
What you create and do in the app
- Routes you build, events you host or join, and the teams you're on.
- Scores, sips, challenge and hazard results recorded for you or by you for someone else.
- Votes and requests in removal polls.
Other people in the same event can see your username, profile photo, team and scores.
Your location
While the Journey screen is open, the app sends your phone's precise location to our server about every 20 seconds. We use it only to work out whether your team has arrived at the next pub. We keep the latest position for each person in an event, replacing the previous one, and don't build a history of where you've been. The app asks your permission first. If you say no, the app still works, but your phone won't count towards your team arriving.
The app doesn't track your location in the background.
Technical information
Our servers and Cloudflare, which sits in front of them, process your IP address and request details in order to deliver the service and protect it from abuse. The app doesn't include advertising or analytics tools.
On your phone only
Your notification and theme settings are stored on your phone. Round reminders are scheduled on your phone from your upcoming events.
Why we use it
- To run the app: accounts, events, teams, scoring and leaderboards.
- To detect when a team reaches its next pub, using your location, with your consent.
- To keep the service secure and deal with abuse, including removal polls.
- To answer you when you contact us.
Under UK GDPR, we rely on providing the service you signed up for, our legitimate interest in keeping it safe, and your consent for location.
Who else handles it
- Google for sign-in, and for the maps and place search in the app. Your phone talks to Google directly for these.
- Cloudflare for delivering and protecting our website and API.
- Supabase for storing profile photos.
We don't sell your information or use it for advertising. Some of these providers may process information outside the UK, under safeguards required by data protection law.
How long we keep it
We keep your account information until you delete your account. Our database is backed up every night and backups are kept for 14 days, so deleted information can remain in a backup for up to that long before it's removed.

Your rights
You can ask us to give you a copy of your information, correct it, delete it, restrict or object to how we use it, or move it elsewhere. You can also withdraw your location permission at any time in your phone's settings. Email support@pintrunner.com and we'll respond within one month.
If you're unhappy with how we handle your information, you can complain to the Information Commissioner's Office at ico.org.uk.
Age
PintRunner is for people aged 18 and over. We don't knowingly collect information from anyone younger. If you think someone under 18 has an account, tell us and we'll remove it.
Changes
If we change this policy in a way that matters, we'll update the date at the top and tell you in the app.
